Makgadikgadi Pans

Moonscapes and Baobab Islands – The Great Magkadigkadi Salt Pans

Want the feeling of being on the moon?  The Makgadigkadi Salt Pans is an ancient lake made up of a collection of Salt Pans collectively bigger than the size of Portugal.  They are some of the largest Salt Pans on earth framed by open grassy plains and palm tree islands.  If you follow your eye along what looks like a palm tree highway, you are not wrong.  These were created by elephants on an ancient migration route.

Your safari experience on the salt pans will lead you in search of your more desert adapted species from aardvark to brown hyena and learning how little creatures survive in such a harsh environment.

You can also let your hair down and quad bike across salt pans in the drier months to seeing one of the largest zebra migrations on earth in the greener months.  Walk with the bushmen and learn their ancient survival skills that they have passed down from generation to generation or visit the famous meerkat colonies as they scramble for scorpions and invertebrates for their breakfast at the start of day.
